This year at SIHH I had the great pleasure to speak with Walter Volpers, who is Associate Director Product Development at IWC.

With the launch of the the new models with new in house movements and new materials, Walter Volpers explains in this interview the process of developing a new watch and how long it takes from the idea to the end product. You thought is simple? No. At IWC the entire team works to create an exceptional timepiece from the product team, marketing team, sales team and also the CEO.

IWC was the first watch brand who introduced titanium and ceramic into the watch industry. Creating new materials for this industry, IWC is now the first who introduced a new material, the Ceratanium, in the Top Gun collection (read more about here). An explanation about Ceratanium and Hard Gold materials you will see in the video.

Another answer from Mr. Walter Volpers is regarding the production of the IWC Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Spitfire Edition "The Longest Flight"(read more about here) as a non limited edition. The watch is now limited edition to 250 pieces and is definitely on of my Top 5 watches from SIHH 2019.
