Following on from a first model, produced in collaboration with Urwerk and unveiled before the summer, the Art In Time watch gallery is proud to announce a second creation, designed in partnership with Ressence.

The piece marks a further contribution to Art In Time’s ongoing initiative – unique in watchmaking – to engage with Monaco’s non-profit community: part of the proceeds from the sale of timepieces created exclusively for the store are passed on to local charities.

A local, long-term initiative

Art In Time is a prestige watch gallery in Monaco bringing together top-level manufacturers who share the same values: creativity, exclusivity, and independence. The concept was devised by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, President of Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud. Right from the outset, he sought to add a philanthropic dimension to the gallery. From this emerged the idea of making unique pieces available from time to time, only at Art In Time, with part of the proceeds dedicated to supporting local concerns.

A fresh chapter

The first such partnership resulted in a piece by Urwerk, unveiled in the first half of 2020; now, a second timepiece has been produced, this time by independent watchmakers Ressence. It too will be helping to fund a local initiative: The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

Named Type 3MC, this model sports a red dial, used for the very first time here. Red is the colour of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation; the Ressence Type 3MC features the perfectly uniform shade in question on the dial and on the rear, where a special ‘1/1’ inscription denotes that it is a unique piece.

The choice of the Type 3 to go with this colour was carefully thought out. The model in question is the only one in the world with an oil-filled dial. Thanks to this scientific and technical feat, the Type 3 harnesses refracted light to give the dial a perfectly even, smooth appearance. Reflections and protrusions disappear, making the display highly readable. The indications are arranged in keeping with Ressence’s distinctive style, with discs and dials rotating around each other. This makes reading the time clearer; the information is displayed on a single plane, like words written on a page, allowing it to be understood intuitively, in two dimensions.

At the forefront of engagement in Monaco

For the best part of 15 years now, through his Foundation, HSH Prince Albert ll of Monaco has been actively involved in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development to counter threats to the planet. Committed to research, technological innovation, and tackling major social challenges, the Foundation funds projects in the Mediterranean basin, the polar regions, and the world’s least socially and economically developed countries. Its goals are to mitigate the effects of climate change, promote renewable energy, preserve biodiversity, manage water resources, and fight against desertification.

Ressence’s high degree of commitment to this ecological initiative is clear: of its own accord, the manufacture decided to bear the costs of the specific developments required for the creation of this unique piece, thereby making a significant contribution to the total amount passed on to the charity.

This latest horological contribution underscores Art In Time’s commitment to local life in Monaco and its noble, age-old tradition of philanthropy.
